Since 1994, I have worked for a small consulting group providing information services for a large pharmaceutical company. In addition, I have provided programming and design services for smaller non-profit websites, as well as music copying, specialty font creation, and publishing services for several composers and arrangers. Over the years, I have acquired a comfortable familiarity with HTML, CSS, Visual Basic, Perl, Javascript, SQL, PHP, AJAX, Spry and several commercial software packages.

I have a few heros in the field of computers:

• Jaron Lanier: articles on Digital Maoism and the creeping depersonalization of aggregation, and a composer, to boot!
• Mark Bernstein: hypertext and the commercial package Tinderbox exemplifying the artistic use of computers.
• TIm Bray: perceptive and brilliant thinker and writer on computer languages and web technology.
• Adam Engst: editor and writer, Tidbits

and in many ways, their opinions have both fed my curiosity and educated me about a field in which I have no training whatsoever. Sadly, my lack of knowledge and experience doesn't deprive me of bias and shuttering opinions. The short pier of my experience sometimes fails to reach deep enough water to float some of my ideas, but I am obstinate and compulsive.

Several years ago I created the corporation mindeartheart, which remains my principal effort in reconciling the opposing forces of art and commerce, between "business model" and the edge of reason.
